From a Whisper to a Scream

Last night I had one of many wedding nightmares.  I have had them before but this one was particularly disturbing.
I dreamed I was wearing this (source)
Just kidding.  The wedding nightmare started out like almost any of them.  It was my wedding day and nothing had turned out the way I had envisioned it.  Instead of decorations, there were these styrofoam curly pool noodles going up the aisle.  There was curling ribbon all over (the type used for packages not beautiful satin ribbon).  I was running around trying to tell people that this was not how it was supposed to go at all!  The florist was putting table runners down in shades of neon green.

At this point in the dream, I thought to myself 'It will be ok, this is just a wedding nightmare'.  I must have said it out loud because someone then replied.  'No it isn't, this is your wedding day.'  At which time I proceeded to hyperventilate.  Never before have I acknowledged in a dream that it was just a dream and then have it rebuffed.  If someone in my dream said it was real then it must be real.

I ran around like a mad woman, giving into the fact that this was indeed my wedding day and it was turning out terribly.  Thankfully I didn't have to hold it together much longer because I soon woke up.  The whole thing was awful!  I am still 9 months away from the wedding and hopefully the dreams will not get worse.

Much too Much

The ring!  Mr. Cucumber Sammie did such a great job picking out my ring that I have a hard time believing he did it all by himself.  I always told him that I wanted a simple, round diamond solitaire.  I thought it would be easy but I guess I was wrong.  He went back to the jewelers 3 times just trying to decide what diamond to pick.  I have to say those three times were worth it.  It is perfect!  Enough babbling... lets get to the ring.

Please forgive my embarrassing attempts at being artsy.

Any tips on taking ring shots?  Don't you just love diamond solitaires?!

Before and After

I think our engagement story suits us as a couple.  It is convoluted and a little accident prone but very sweet and sentimental.  Mr. Cucumber Sammie is going to kill me for starting at the beginning but if I left it out I wouldn't be telling the whole truth.

Mr. Cucumber Sammie and I started talking about getting engaged a while ago.  We discussed what kind of ring would I want and when he would ask.  If I am going to throw him under the bus in a minute I might was well be honest about myself as well; I was not the most patient bride-to-be.  I got a little antsy towards the end and might have started nagging.  It was not pretty.  Mr. CucSandwich got the not so subtle hint and got me a ring.

He couldn't decide when to pop the question so he carried the ring around in his pocket for a while where I promptly found it.  Yes, you read that correctly.  I found the ring before he proposed.  In my defense it was not my fault (I blame the pickle puppy).  I went to take the dog out and grabbed the first jacket I saw off the coat rack.  It turned out to be his jacket and I would have thought nothing of the bulges in the pocket had he not panicked.

"TAKE IT OFF, TAKE IT OFF!"

Of course I gave him the crazy eye and took off his jacket.  About five minutes later he was clearly still thinking about it and gave me some excuse for flipping out (I think it had something to do with important USBs).  Once he realized I was not buying it, he fessed up and told me he had the ring.  Declaring that I had ruined it, he said he was going to wait to propose until I forgot about it.  (How naive to think that any woman could forget about a diamond).

All this happened in February 2010 and true to his word he waited.  Every time we went out to dinner or had a nice evening planned I thought 'this is it'.  At this point almost two months have gone by of constant vigilance from me.  Finally the moment I least expected it, Mr. Cucumber Sammie asked me to marry him.

It was a Saturday morning and I was in my glasses, painting sweatshirt and sweat pants.  I must really love you, hive, if I am going to share the pictures of my 'just engaged' outfit.

Every girl's dream engagement outfit
Mr. CucSandwich was supposed to be taking the puppy out and I was in the kitchen making cream of wheat.  I was yelling for him to tell me what he wanted on his when I whirled around and there he was on one knee.  Mr. Cucumber Sammie gave me the most sincere and loving speech about how he had thought long and hard about where he wanted to do this.  He thought about fancy restaurants and surprises but he realized he wanted to do it here in our home where our family first started.  Hopefully my answer is obvious!
Mr. CucSammie reenacting the proposal
After all the excitement and fanfare we sat down to a lovely breakfast of cream of wheat!  We waited a couple of hours to just spend time together before we called family and friends.  It was an amazing way to start the weekend.

Did anyone else have a morning proposal?  Accidentally find the ring? Coming up next: the Ring!

Sometimes a Fantasy

I know I am getting ahead of myself because I haven't even shared our venue with you yet but I wanted to talk about the decor that didn't happen.  When I first started looking at wedding porn there were so many things that I wanted.  Looking at all those delicious weddings can be completely overwhelming and definitely set up unrealistic expectations for me.  I finally had to quit cold turkey.  Not before I completely fell in love with Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling though!

Isn't this just completely gorg!?!  Haven't not (yet) spent a lot of time obsessing over weddings, I thought it was the most original idea I had ever seen and had to have it at my wedding.  As time went on the list of things I HAD to have at the wedding grew longer and longer.  I think we are now up to 27 things I have to have at the wedding which is entirely too much.

Sadly I realized with our venue, hanging the lanterns would be almost logistically impossible.  There is zero room in the budget to hire someone to do it.  I suppose I could always convince friends and family to hang them the day of the wedding but it could take hours and I want them to enjoy the day as well.  Besides I don't even know if the venue would allow us to hang things from the ceiling.  I am definitely hiring a DoC but there are so many other projects I am hoping she will set up that this one just fell off the priority list.  It is still nice to look at pictures and dream though.

What a Difference a Day Makes

Picking our wedding date turned out to be a happy accident.  Originally when Mr. CucSandwich and I first thought about getting engaged (many, many, many, many years ago), we imagined a fall of 2010 wedding.  Sadly the time frame we talked about for him to propose came and went.  He did not put a ring on it.

So after calm discussions (hahaha) we decided to move the wedding back to the fall of 2011.  When we did get engaged there would not have been enough time to plan and save for a wedding.  There wasn't any reason for us to stress about the wedding before planning even began so we just pushed it back a year. Having a wedding in the fall was my idea and Mr. CucSandwich has been gracious enough to go along with it.

The day we got engaged, my fifth phone call of the morning was to my dream wedding venue (coming soon!).  After getting sample prices back from the venue, I realized maybe my dream venue was perhaps too much of a dream.  Sensing my dismay Mr. CucSandwich was determined to make it work and suggested either a Friday night or a Sunday on a holiday weekend when the rates were lower.  With a huge amount of luck the venue was open on Sunday of a holiday weekend in the fall!!

So really the venue dictated our date more than we did but in the end it turned out fantabulously (it's a word).  We didn't have an attachment to any date in particular so this is fine by us.

How did you pick your wedding date?

Holidaze

I never thought I would get inspiration for my wedding around the holidays but then I saw these:

I L.O.V.E.  I have no idea where or how I am going to use them at the wedding but it seems very doable and it would be a great way to use some pops of color.

I think this might have to be added to the To Do list.

Anyone else find odd places for wedding inspiration to strike?  Thoughts on where I can use them?

Sorry :(

I know I was a terrible blogger over the holidays but there was tons of stuff going on in the Lemon Puppy house.  I promise to bring updates and more consistent blogging in 2011!
